EKAINBERRI

"The most perfect set of horses in all Quaternary Art".

André Leroi-Gourham

Ekain cave, famous for its cave paintings from the Magdalenian period, was discovered in 1969.

These paintings had remained hidden for many thousands of years, sheltered by the cave's fragile micro-climate, in ideal conservation conditions. Nevertheless, the question remained of how we could contemplate this proof of far-off humanity without damaging it.

You need a confirmed reservation to be able to visit the replica of Ekain cave.

This led to the idea of building a replica of Ekain cave, known as Ekainberri.

Thanks to this replica we can now discover, find out about and feel this Basque Palaeolithic artistic legacy, declared World Heritage for Humanity by UNESCO on 13th August 2008.
